🐶 Week 1: Build the Routine
Set a schedule
- Take your puppy out every 2 hours, and after every nap, playtime, or meal.
- Use the same potty spot each time so your pup connects the place with the action.
Use a command
- Say something like “Go potty” every time you take them out.
- Praise and reward with treats immediately when they go in the right spot.
Watch for signs
- Sniffing, circling, whining, or pacing? Take them out right away.

🐾 Week 2: Reinforce Good Habits
Stick to the schedule
- Consistency is key. Keep outings at the same time every day.
Minimize accidents
- Confine your puppy when you can’t supervise — use a crate or playpen.
- Puppies naturally avoid soiling their sleeping space.
Clean mistakes properly
- Use enzyme-based cleaners to remove odors and avoid future accidents in the same spot.
💡 Tip: Never punish! Accidents happen — redirect, don’t scold.
🐕 Week 3: Give More Freedom — Slowly
Start giving short free-roam time
- After successful potty outside, let them explore the house for 10–15 minutes at a time.
- Increase the time as they stay clean.
Fade out the treats
- Begin rewarding every other time, then randomly. But always praise warmly.
Spot-check success
- If they’re going several days with no accidents, you’re almost there!
